May 18: UKONS is national society host for ECND23 and welcomes EONS colleagues

16 May 2023

UKONS President, Mark Foulkes, tweets: "The UKONS Board and the UK are hosting ECND23 in Scotland for the first time in many years. I think this gives an important message about the importance of UK cancer nursing in Europe and the strength across our four nations."

This year’s celebration takes place on Thursday 18 May in Edinburgh, Scotland, and across social media, with the theme Driving innovation in Cancer Care. Our focus is on pioneering new approaches in cancer care through nursing innovation and how this extends across the 5 P’s: Policy, Prevention, Personalised Care, Patient Involvement, and Practice Education (EONS, 2023).

The EONS Board and Working Groups meet face-to-face on 18 May for a special celebratory event in Edinburgh with the UK Oncology Nursing Society. The morning will feature a range of high-profile speakers and the afternoon will focus on planning the ongoing work of EONS at a variety of meetings and workshops (EONS, 2023).

EONS members across Europe take part in a social media campaign to celebrate the day and highlight our theme. The ECND Toolkit is available to download from this page. It is full of useful templates and memes featuring our key messages to use on social media to help make European Cancer Nursing Day on 18 May have maximum impact! This is our time to make sure the importance of cancer nursing is understood throughout Europe – so do take part in this celebration of everything we do, posting your pictures and videos and using the all-important hashtag #ECND23Go4Innovation (EONS, 2023).
